Italy O2.5 Offsides 1.60 5 units

Holland - Italy 3.00 DRAW 1 unit

Holland No Goals 2.50 0.5 unit

Romania PK 3.55 1 unit

Italy will be Over the 2.5 offsides in the first 10 minutes, they play on counters with my man Toni against team that play on max. ball posession like Holland does. This guy is standing on the edge of being offside, and most of the time he is called by the ref for it. (Inzaghi, anyone?) But a couple of times he's not, and thats the strenght of this star-player of Bayern Munchen. Italy is going to rely on their good defence (even without Fabio Canavarro).

Holland has some offensive creativity, especially on the midfield, with Sneijder, Van der Vaart, and Robben, van Persie in the attack. But, Robben is out, thats a bummer for the Dutch side, Van Persie isnt ready to play this match. So Holland is going to start off with Van Nistelrooy who scores alot from 1-2 metres, doesnt have individual offensive skills to play 1-1 with his marker, especially Materazzi, Zambrotta. Same stuff with D.Kuyt, who's allegedly is going to start off tomorrow with Van-the-Man in the offense of the Dutch team.

The first match of the tournament is not one to put every single bit of strenght and power in it. So they're going to play tight, not giving away a single square meter on the pitch tomorrow. Its going to be a tough match for the not so strong Dutch defense, but they're going to keep Italy off from scoring.

where did you play the offside play? totally agree with you, they will be off 5+ times easily. Too bad Pippo isn't starting, he would be off half a dozen times in the first 5 minutes.

A few thoughts...

What do you guys think about tomorrow?

Croatia - Germany(1.75) 5 units

Croatia - Germany GERMANY -1 3.15 2 units

Croatia - Germany CROATIA NO GOALS 2.15 3 units

A few thoughts on this game...Croatia played very weak against Austria. They have a solid team, but they seemed to have some problems at getting the ball to their offense, and when they did Olic and Petric didnt do shit with it. They really miss Eduardo, the guy who scored the most goals at the Quali for Croatia. I dont see them score against the solid German defense, they just dont have their Van Nistelrooij, Villa, Inzaghi in their team on this Euro 2008.

Germany will score, no doubt. Their offense is great, Klose and Podolski playing for Bayern Munich, and knowing how to run to get the ball to each other. From set-pieces they are solid aswell, great headers like Ballack are getting the balls in to the net from corners and FK's.

This game is going to be great, Im pretty sure Croatia is going to put a bigger effort in it, than they did against Austria. Germany is going to try to close out this group, with a 2-0, maybe 3-0.

Austria - Poland(2.15) 2 units

Poland is going to whack Austria. Polish team is eager to win, after that tough game against Germany. They played well, but just not good enough to beat the German-machine. Austria is weak, I dont see them win tomorrow, Poland all the way!

On a side note...

Group D is interesting, because Russia played as shit against Spain, and Hiddink is going to beat the crap outta them before the game against Greece. Im going to go with Russia on this one, they can play well, the team showed it in the Quali. Greece are playing with 12 men in their own box, Russia need to play with fast wings like Bystrov, and upcoming defenders Zhirkov, Anyukov. A creative midfield with Zyryanov and Pavlyuchenko who will score his second of this tourney will decide this match in Russia's favor. The Under is a great on this one too. Will add the plays for Saturday later.

Spain had an easy win, they're not going to have another easy night like that. Im leaning on Sweden PK, because the defense is pretty tight, Villa and Torres will not play that open against the 3 Crowns, like they did against the Russian Bear. The offense of the Swedish is solid, and can score, just from individual quality, just like Zlatan did against Greece.

Just my thoughts...

Good luck with your plays MonsterBuck.

It's too bad about Croatia... because as a Canadian, I have always cheered for Croatia as my favourite European team... but this team looked absolutely horrid in their first game. I am still holding out hope they can turn this around, and it will probably come down to their final game against Poland. I'm going to stay away from this game, since I have no idea which Croatian team shows up.

As for Russia, perhaps I am one of the few people who thought they played well against Spain. They just could not defend the counter attack that Spain is so well at executing. They controlled the play for spells during the game, but it seemed like everytime they got some chances, Spain would get a quick counter attack and put the ball away. It's no great prediction to say that Greece does not have the same offensive ability. After their terrible performance against Sweden, I really like Russia to take this game. I really expect them to pour it on against the Greeks.

Hey, great analysis, but I'm not so sure about the Polish game. I'm a huge Poland fan and I analyze every part of their game. The Poles are amazing after getting into this tournament after beating Portugal. In the past big tournaments Poland has always lost early on - but that's because they played the worst teams at first and lost all hope. Now, they have 2 easy games in a row. But Austria really isn't that easy to beat. You see the Poland Germany game? A couple yellow cards were given out on Poland's best players in order to get them into foul trouble for this game. Now, a referee setup will get Austria closer to a win. Plus, if Austria wins this one then the final game against Germany they can win, because Germany doesn't care. So the whole tournament lies on this game for Austria, and the refs just might push it through. If you pick Poland then pick YES there will be a penalty kick and YES there will be a red card and you should be able to recoup any losses on Poland or profit. Goo luck.

I think an even better bet for the Poland-Austria game is OVER 2 GOALS. I can definitely see some goals in this match.

The line is currently -110 at Olympic.

I liked Croatia very much, and think they will play much better against Germany, than they did against Austria. But the Germans just have more strength, power and offensive skills to turn the game in their own favor.

So I agree with you, its difficult to tell what kind of Croatian team will show up today. Bilic could set up the tactics differently, so they could play on the counter, not ball-posession. The thing is, if you play against the German team on posession, 9 out of 10 times you're not going to make it, because of the physical strenght, the speed and the power of their players.

The Croatian team is going have to show some decent effort to turn this stuff around. Im sure the game against Austria was a fluke, thats not the Croatian team playing their best match.

Think it can go both ways, its going to be a very boring 0-0, 1-0, or a match with many goals and a suprising winner. Im still convinced Poland is going to do well on this one.

The Polish team isnt going to lean back and chill like Croatia did for 75 minutes after they scored the one and only goal against Austria. Poland is going to fight, and no way Austria is going to play that offensive with so little space to play on. The guys from Warszawa are going to keep it real tight, and with the speed and the will to win, they'll grab this one.

Why Russia lost against Spain

A few notes on that game.

First off all let me say Spain is obviously the better team in this matchup. Our team is average, and we're one of the big dogs on this tournament.

This match was horrendous to watch as a fan of the Russian team. I dont know where to start...

The defense was horrible and here's why. Kolodin and Shirokov, the two CB's, are not real backs, they're transformed from CMF to a CB. Everybody noticed that these 2 guys didnt knew what to do, where to run, how to mark. Against a killer-CF-duo Villa-Torres it could resulted in 10-1 for Spain. Only the last couple of friendlies our team played with those two CB's, and Hiddink are setting them up against Spain, at the Euro 2008? You gotta be fucking kidding me on this one?

We always played with the brothers Berezutsky, who are hardcore backs, and Ignashevitch who doesnt have finesse or great technique, but he's a tough back to pass. Those guys know how to mark a CF, even off the class Villa/Torres.

Even if you put Kolodin/Shirokov in the CB position, you gotta have a guy who have your back, if one of the CF's slip away. Our LB/RB Anyukov and Zhirkov were too busy getting to the cornerflag on the half of Spain, leaving the two CB one on one with the killers, Villa and Torres. You cant play those guys with just one marker, and if you do the marker is gotta be top tier, or else the D will fail.

Another thing what bothered me, was the lack of interest, fighting spirit. If a ball was lost, our guys didnt even bother to get it back. For example Bilyaletdinov, he made a couple of rushes on the left, but when he was losing a battle against his marker, he didnt put 110% effort to get the ball back, he just let the Espana guy run with the ball.

Another example. When Iniesta, or an other MF was running from their own half, dribbling with the ball, nobody attacked this guy. Our defense just ran away with their back to the ball, thats a great mistake. You always gotta meet the man with the ball as early as possible, or else he easily can get to your box, and shoot without being marked. The defense always gotta create situations, where the man with the ball, just got to make effort to keep posession.

When we were trailing 3-0, we kept playing like we were leading 3-0. With this attitude we just can pack our stuff, and go back to Russia. Even Turkey playing Switzerland, both teams showed maximum effort, while their teams or individual qualities are not that good.

A positive thing, our offense played OK, couple nice passes, Zyryanov with the shot hitting the post. Nice combos with Pavluchenko, but it wasnt too dangerous for the Spanish defense.

The absence off Arshavin and Pogrebnyak are noticable, Arshavin with the great passing and creativity on the midfield, and Pogrebnyak the topscorer, killer-forward. But well, thats how it is, the team should function without those 2 aswell.

Hopefully Hiddink kicked the shit out of them after this match, and they're preparing something nice against Greece. If they're going to play the same shitty defense, even Greece is going to win 4-1, with their 40-year old offense, slow as shit. We gotta step up, and show our team have the strength and qualities to win. Im already be happy if we fight 90 minutes long, the results may vary.

Just a few thoughts...
